Why was Let’s Talk developed?

After consulting with families and students, educators and leaders, the Tasmanian Department for Education, Children and Young People realised that families weren’t talking as much as they used to.

Talking, listening and communicating are all skills we need for learning and for life.

We developed this campaign to make parents and carers more aware of the value of talking to their children – from babies to teenagers.

Through talking and listening, we learn new words and develop our thinking skills.

When we talk we learn to organise our words into sentences that others can understand.

Talking and listening skills are also the building blocks for learning how to read and write.

We want all Tasmanians children and young people to succeed. Good communication skills will set them up for life.

So Let’s Talk.
